INTRODUCTION:

This soccer camp launched in England by the most popular English soccer player of all times, Sir Bobby Charlton (winner of the 1966 Soccer World Cup with England, and also winner of European Clubs Cup, English Championships and English Cup with Manchester United) is one of the most renowned English Soccer Camp of the past 30 years.

2008 will be the 30th year of operation for Bobby Charlton Soccer and Sports Academy (BCSSA) during which time they have built a great reputation for providing high quality soccer camps for children and coaches throughout the U.K. and around the world (See our BCSSA camp in San Francisco).

Most popular soccer participants who won the BCSSA soccer skills finals during previous BCSSA soccer camps:

David Beckham (newly multi-million dollar contract signed with Major League Soccer (MLS) team: Los Angeles Galaxy)  was a star pupil at the Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools from 1986-1988. He first came to Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools as an 11 year old in 1986. David Beckham won BCSSA skills competition as a 12 year old.

Stephen Ireland, currently playing for Manchester City of the English Premier League and the national team of Ireland was a past pupil of the Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools

Throughout the year BCSSA operate Skills Tests on the courses that BCSSA run. The winner of the Skills Tests is invited to the World Skills Final which takes place during BCSSA summer residential soccer school at Myerscough College. BCSSA hope that their skills winners can go on to follow in the foot steps of this great professional soccer players.

BCSSA summer residential soccer camp welcomed every year visitors from over 40 different nations and provided a truly International experience for all of the players who visited. All of BCSSA courses utilize their original Soccer Theme Park coaching equipment, a concept which BCSSA has developed since 1996.  BCSSA still remain the market leader and will continue to provide the very latest training equipment and methods for all of the players and coaches who visit their courses.

Children can attend for a minimum of 5 days (Sunday to Friday) to any number of weeks. However, we would recommend that you stay no longer than 2 weeks as this can prove tiring, you are welcome to stay longer if you wish.

Girls soccer players are welcome to attend on any of the dates, however, the number of girls in attendance on certain dates is sometimes low or could be none mainly for the first 4 sessions in July (we recommend that you contact us if you want to reserve for a girl in the first 4 sessions in July), therefore BCSSA is operating specific girls weeks from Sunday 29th July to Friday 10th August.
(there are female coaches on staff during all summer sessions)

  • First 4 sessions available for 11 to 18 years old

  • Last 2 sessions available for 8 to 18 years old

  • Session 5 is for girls and boys players (August 3 - 8)

  • Goalkeeper session only available during session 4 (July 27 - August 1)
(Goalkeeper training available in the morning during all regular sessions)

Option: English Classes as a Second Language.

During language lessons, besides being taught the fundamentals of English grammar and its use, lessons focus on communication and practice. BCSSA makes use of the motivational powers of soccer, which allows youngsters to study through a medium they thoroughly enjoy and in which they are both knowledgeable and confident. Each course is centered around the needs of each pupil and the standards are aimed for each realistic and attainable. With all elements of the programme, the early section will be used to ascertain existing levels of performance and from that an individualized learning programme will be arranged. All aspects of the programme will be delivered in truly international classes with many opportunities to mix and converse with British youngsters, on the football pitch and more informally in a social environment.

BCSSA summer residential courses take place at Myerscough College (MAP), Preston.

Myerscough College provides a suitable setting for BCSSA residential courses, with all facilities required being on site. Based in Bilsborrow, near Preston the campus is, quite simply, amazing. Set in 600 hectares of open green surroundings, Myerscough College offers all the facilities you could need for a great time including the Stumble Inn bar which will be utilized for the evening activities of pool, table tennis, video games and Sky TV, as well as accommodation for over 650 students. There is a 200 seat theatre which shows football videos and movies at various times each day. The grass playing fields are a 5 minute walk from the main bedroom / eating areas and provide an excellent playing surface. There is also an astro turf pitch, state-of-the-art indoor sports facilities with viewing gallery.

BCSSA students will be accommodated on site in twin bedded rooms, all rooms have their own washbasin, with ample toilet and shower facilities on each corridor. All rooms are well furnished and carpeted. Rooms are lockable. Bedrooms are cleaned weekly, it is students’ own responsibility to make their own beds each day. (Each player will be issued their own room key and meal card on arrival, there will be a charge for lost keys of £30.00.). Laundry clothing machines are available, coin-operated cost £1 per wash and £1 per dry. Towels are NOT provided at the centre.

It is NOT recommended that you bring expensive electrical items and portable phones to the school. All money, passports and travel documents may be left in the BCSSA Bank which can be accessed daily.

the soccer course will be comprehensive, covering all elements of the game, covering techniques, skills, phases of play, small sided games and full 11 v 11 sessions for some of the older players. Evaluations can be made in terms of the player's technical ability using BCSSA skills tests and BCSSA will also use the very latest high tech equipment currently being used by many Premier League teams to provide a measure of a player's physical ability. This sports science support is unique to BCSSA.

All residential participants will be given the opportunity to play in games against local opposition and in the past the most talented players have been recommended to local professional Academies.

All participants will be expected to take an active role in this element, so it is advised that students have a good level of fitness before they attend.

On the first day, groups are established based on age and ability. Campers will have on average between 5 to 6 hours of soccer per day. (3 to 4 hours if taking English classes). During the weekend (for children staying more than one week), there are no practices only rest time or excursions.

Goalkeeping Sessions Only:

Goalkeeping coaching (July 20 - 25 and August 3 - 8) will be done in all aspects of the position, handling, footwork, diving, shot stopping, to name a few, to help you the goalkeeper achieve a level of success, regardless of ability.
